Lions to practice with Raiders, Giants this summer

When Lions coach Matt Patricia was on the Patriots coaching staff, the team often held joint practices with other teams during training camp and he said in April that he wanted to do the same thing in Detroit.

Patricia’s wish has been granted. The Lions announced on Friday that they will hold practices with the Raiders and Giants this summer.

The Lions will travel to Napa to work with the Raiders at their training camp on August 7 and 8 before they play a preseason game in Oakland on August 10. They’ll host practices with the Giants from August 14-16 and then play a game at Ford Field on August 17.

There are few decisions in recent NHL history as maligned as the one Florida GM Dale Tallon made in opting to protect defensemen Mark Pysyk and Alexander Petrovic rather than Marchessault, who led the team with 30 goals in 2016-17. Vegas jumped at the chance to draft the 5-foot-9 forward, whom McPhee called a hard-working player with no ego. Marchessault had a career-high 75 points this season, including 27 goals. He has 18 points in 15 games in the playoffs.

It’s hard to say right now who will be that number two, Cardinals coach Steve Wilks said, via Darren Urban of the team website. We’re still working, and those guys understand and know — we talk about it all the time — the best 11 are going to play. We create competition.

Christian Kirk, a second-round pick this year, and Chad Williams, a third-round pick last year, figure to play into the competition along with Brice Butler, Cobi Hamilton and J.J. Nelson. Nelson had the second-most yards on the Cardinals behind Fitzgerald last season with 508, though he caught only 29 passes.

And the Cardinals still could sign a veteran to fit into the mix, via Urban.

The Rangers were hamstrung by protecting a young core while managing no-movement clauses, and they had to expose players they liked, such as Lindberg. Vegas was enamored by the then-25-year-old’s speed and took him instead of guys such as Jesper Fast, Antti Raanta and Michael Grabner. Fast might have been the better pick. Lindberg never found his footing in Vegas (11 points in 63 games) and has cracked the lineup in just three playoff games.

Lakers say they won’t rush rookie Josh Hart back after surgery

Los Angeles Lakers rookie guard Josh Hart will undergo surgery Friday on a fractured metacarpal bone in his left hand.

The Lakers said there was no timetable for the rookie’s recovery, but head coach Luke Walton did not rule him out for the season. The Lakers have 21 more regular-season games after Thursday night’s game in Miami.

Detroit coach Stan Van Gundy took his starting five to task for their offensive failure at the end of regulation and in overtime.

“We didn’t play very well,” Van Gundy said. “Those are the guys that are supposed to win games for us. We just stand around. Clearly if we had answers, we would have won.”

Fournier’s scoring burst gave Orlando a 110-104 lead going into the final two minutes of overtime. That proved to be plenty of cushion against a Detroit team that went from shooting 52.4 percent in the first three quarters to making just one of their last 17 shots in regulation and overtime.

Kemba Walker made his first eight shots and led Charlotte with 23 points. Dwight Howard had 21 points for the Hornets, who were coming off a victory over Chicago on Tuesday night and couldn’t keep up with the Celtics after halftime.

“That’s a product of how we started the game. We’ve got to do a better job of starting and making sure we don’t allow guys to get in a rhythm early,” Howard said. “We didn’t start the second half the right way. We started it like we did in the first half. They capitalized on it and they didn’t look back.”

Boston led 67-59 at halftime and opened the third quarter on a 12-3 run, followed by an 8-0 spurt a few minutes later as the Hornets continued to wilt.

“What we got was what we deserved. Our defense was Baseball Jerseys For Sale embarrassing,” coach Steve Clifford said. “The things that have made us the Hornets over the years … none of it was there.”

Charlotte didn’t have much luck, either, in the third period. Irving barely beat the shot-clock buzzer with a turnaround jumper that put Boston up 86-67 with 6:29 left Cheap NFL Jerseys Paypal in the third, and bounces continued to fall for the Celtics.

Charles Oakley on today’s NBA players: ‘Some should wear dresses’

Charles Oakley has some thoughts on the current generation of NBA stars.

Speaking in Dallas before this weekend’s BIG3 event, the former Knicks star said today’s players are sensitive and that some should wear dresses.

The elbow jumper. It’s just part of his natural scoring instinct. When he gets you on the elbow he can create something, he is going to move his feet 100 different ways, but he knows where he is going. He can make a fallaway from there, which is the kind of clutch, late-game move you need. Of all the things he does, that is the one that shows just how good he can be.

He gets a little selfish out there. He won’t be able to do that with a team as talented as the Celtics. There are too many other scorers. But he does get it in his mind sometimes that he is going to take the shot, and he might use up all the clock before he throws up a dud. That is fixable, though.

You can do anything with this guy defensively. He can guard four positions. He has instincts, he can swallow up shooting guards with his length and his athleticism, but he is strong enough to handle 4s. His ability to get to the basket is terrific, but the way he can switch off anyone and still handle himself defensively, that is going to change things for the Suns.

He won’t be able to live off athleticism on the offensive end in the NBA. He needs to completely rebuild his shot, I think. He is young enough that you can break him down and rebuild his jumper and probably do it pretty quickly.
